THE TV SET

A smartly written and well acted indie comedy.

The TV Set is a great movie. It has everything you want from this kind of film. It’s not always good when a film is exactly what you thought it would be, but in this case it was. I was expecting a solid indie film and I got it. The actors were fun to watch and did a great job in their respective roles. The script was well written and directed by James Kasdan. He also worked on the cult-classic TV show Freaks and Geeks. This film moves along at a good pace and the humor is what really keeps it going.

The story that this film follows is one that not too many people are familiar with. Those of us in LA have certainly met people that are very similar to these characters. The actors got the roles right on. All the way down to the camera operator.

Sigourney Weaver is a lot of fun to watch as the TV station’s exec. Every scene you can find humor just in what she is wearing. David Duchovny plays a stressed out writer very well. He really brings across all the struggling emotions and that trying to make it big hope. And all around the supporting cast does a great job. They are so funny and enjoyable to see in action.

The film is light-hearted, with dry humor laced throughout. The humor is very character based and mostly through the interaction between them. The cast works well together and created some comical moments. The TV Set is well directed, well acted, and not over the top. These are all reassuring things to see in an indie film.
